AIDA Cruises is very popular with cruise newcomers, but many guests who have once traveled on an AIDA ship also return again and again enthusiastically. Three tanks in the belly of the ship can hold around 3,500 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas, which is enough to fuel a two-week cruise. AIDAnova has 2,626 staterooms on 20 decks, which also house spacious restaurants and entertainment areas – including a climbing wall, sports deck and waterslides. AIDAnova is the first ship of the new Helios Class and was put into service in December 2018. The 337-metre long cruise ship was built by the Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

All AIDA liners have on their top-deck Freikorperkultur (FKK Bereich) - a fore-located Nudist Deck. This is a generously-sized outdoor area where naked passengers can enjoy sunbathing protected from the gaze of curious suitors. In most cruise ports, and especially in countries where the local culture doesn't allow nudism in public spaces (for example, Muslim countries), the ship's FKK deck can be accessed only in swimwear. On most AIDA liners, the FKK deck has 1 (or 2) whirlpools / hot tubs. Like on most of the other ships of the fleet there is the Theatrium where shows are presented in the evenings. There are a new 360-degree stage and some new impressive technical features.

AIDAnova is a cruise ship built by Meyer Werft GmbH in Papenburg, Germany under contract from Carnival Corporation for AIDA Cruises. The first of the new Excellence-class ships, she was launched on 21 August 2018 and delivered on 12 December 2018. AIDAnova is capable of operating both in port and on the open sea using four Caterpillar dual-fuel hybrid engines. The section (1st of 2 equally sized, prefabricated modules) has length 120 m (394 ft), width 42 m (138 ft) and height 19 decks. On February 21, 2017, was vessel's steel-cutting ceremony held at Meyer Werft shipyard (Papenburg Germany). With this special event officially started the vessel's construction works. On September 6 (2017) was the keel-laying ceremony for the first hull block, held at the Papenburg shipyard's building dock.
The shipowner is Costa Cruises (Carnival Corporation-owned company), while the vessel's operator is the German company AIDA Cruises. Standard cabin balconies are equipped with padded deck chairs and coffee table. JB-Junior Suites feature a separate "conservatory" (patio lounge room) plus step-out balcony. Single cabins are new type of staterooms for AIDA Cruises, designed for solo travelers and available for booking without single supplement. Both cabins categories (Inside and Balcony) are with 10-m2 interior space and single sofabed.
Like most large-sized newbuilds, the AIDA ship Nova is LNG-powered, with 4x Caterpillar Marine LNG engines (model MaK 16M-46DF) generating combined output 57,2 MW. The propulsion system is based on two Azimuting thrusters (combined power output 37 MW). The ship has 3x LNG tanks (cryogenic steel) with total capacity ~3200 m3. Two of the tanks are larger (length 35 m, diameter 8 m, LNG capacity 1525 m3), while the 3rd tank has length 28 m, diameter 5 m and capacity 520 m3.
